Recreational Program
Our recreational program is designed for the casual player. Parents volunteer to lead the training sessions and games. Games are typically in-house. There is typically 1 training session and 1 game session per week. We will create teams on the fly each week or we can create set teams for the season. The game format will be 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 games depending upon the age group. The season will run for 8-10 weeks in the spring (Late March - Early June) and fall (Late Auguest - Early November). Outside play is weather-dependent and players should always refer to the club's online calendar when looking to confirm specific training dates and times.
Age and Gender Groupings
There is no age limitation in our recreational program. Our gender and age groupings are dependent on the number of players that sign-up. Usually, we will create a co-ed age 4-7 group and then break out the players by grade and gender starting with the 1st grade. However, if the number of volunteers or players for a given group are too low, then we may be forced to combine groups. In this case, we will combine by grade and then by gender. For example, we will typically combine 2nd and 3rd grade boy before we make the group co-ed.
Locations and Times
Fields and days of the week can vary season to season and can be subject to change based upon the number of registrations and/or the weather. Dates, times and locations will be posted on the schedule link posted on the right-hand side of the home page. The fields will typically be the Sewickley Hills Borough Field, Osborne Elementary School Field, Neville Island War Memorial Park or the QVHS stadium. We will also leverage indoor gymnasiums and other cost-effective indoor facilities whenever they are available. For those groups playing outside league games - the dates and times of the games will often not be set until one-week prior to the start of the season.
Outside League Games
If there is enough commitment from a specific group of volunteers and parents, we will form a dedicated team to participate in a more competitive league. Dedicated leagues require games to be played oftentime regardless of weather, time or location. Each player will need to provide certain documentation that will be provided to the league (e.g., birth certificate). All players are required to wear the same style of jersey, shorts and socks. Players are expected to arrive to each game at least 30 minutes prior to the kick-off. Such teams also have fixed rosters. This means that when players are absent from games, it handicaps the team's ability to compete.
Any player that would like to play outside games should plan to attend the pre-season volunteer meeting which is usually 75 days prior to the start of the season. If there is enough interest, it will be determined at that time.
Fee Cost & Uniforms
The fee for the recreational league is $75 per player per season. This fee covers the cost of insurance, a t-shirt, referee training and the cost of field and facility rental/maintenance. Those players that wish to be a part of a team to participate in an outside league will need to purchase a jersey, shorts and socks separately. All fees are due within 15 business days from the date/time stamp of your registration. Families that need more time or special arrangements to pay their fee should contact the current president of ORVFC.
Coaching Education
ORVFC will provide coach education and session planning for volunteer coaches. There are professional coaches within the organization that will help train those coaches willing to commit the time to attend coaching classes during the off-season. If you plan to volunteer and you would like to receive training, please send an email to the current president of ORVFC to setup the necessary schedule.
