The Sentinels

In western Pennsylvania, indoor training is an important part of every soccer player’s development. We are fortunate to have the Sportrak, an indoor facility, within our geographic area. The Sportrak runs leagues for ages U08 and up. For our U06 players, we work with the QV School district to utilize available gym time for training.

In 2006, the Sentinels stepped into the role of organizing indoor teams for the children from our fall program to have them train and compete against other teams at the Sportrak. Our purpose for doing so was to provide some structure to the process of forming teams but more importantly to continue the training and development started in the fall.

There are two indoor sessions: Session I (Oct thru Jan) and Session II (Jan – Apr). Details about the age groups and leagues are listed below. Practice sessions are only held if the coach is able to do so and we can find the available time. We form teams based upon the number of volunteers we have to coach. If your child participated in a Sentinels program in the past already has a Sentinels uniform or T-Shirt, you do not need to purchase another.

Due to the lack of consistent indoor facility availability, our practice sessions are not always possible week to week. We post both practice and game schedules on our website.

• First Session Player Registration Period – Sunday, 09/20/09 thru Saturday, 09/26/09 at 5:30pm
• Anyone missing the registration period but would like to be placed on our waitlist should send an email to tfelt@orvfc.org and title the subject of your email “ORVFC Waitlist”. The waitlist is a first-come, firstserved list. We simply add new names to the bottom of the list and add players to the program as possible from the top of the list.
• All registrations will be processed using our online registration tool: http://www.orvfc.org/register.html
• Please note that even if you register and you have not paid for this session or any open balance from past sessions by 10/3/09, your child will be moved to the wait list until payment is made.
• Please let us know if you are willing to coach, assistant coach or manage email reminders for a team by choosing a volunteer category underneath your contact information in our online database.

Program Highlights/Changes

• When possible and appropriate, we will have Sentinel teams play each other in games of Futsal within certain time blocks at the Sportrak. Futsal is the original game of indoor soccer and is outstanding training for our players. The primary difference between Futsal and the standard style of game at the Sportrak is that the boards are out of bounds in Futsal. Practically, we might have one week of Futsal, then one week of the typical game against another club, then one week of Futsal, and so on. We will see how this works.
• U07 and U08 time slots at the Sportrak have moved to Thu, Fri and Sun. This is new this season.
• Please note that our strategy for indoor in the 2nd session this winter might change. Our club is concerned that the second session of indoor extends far too long and we are looking at purchasing time and hiring coaches to focus on training sessions and futsal games from 1/10 – 2/28. Then we would give the kids the month of March off and start up with the outdoor season in April. This is still under discussion and we will let you know what we decide later in November.
